Off the Rails Gallery, Dunkeld, once again played host to the International Tree Drawing Competition, a unique event that asked artists to email in an A4, black and white tree drawing to go into the running to win $300, courtesy of Glenelg Hopkins CMA.
The director of the Hamilton Art Gallery, Danny McOwan, had the difficult task of selecting the prize winners, which were announced during a special opening event on Friday evening.
• Judy Warne, was awarded 1st prize ($300 courtesy of Glenelg Hopkins CMA) for her pencil drawing of a pair of boab trees.
• Valerie Alexander’s pencil drawing was highly commended, and was awarded a $100 Wannon Water prize pack.
• Jed Gleeson was awarded the junior tree drawing award ($50 courtesy of Kelspec Services Pty. Ltd.) for his drawing of a copse.
• Rhys Poe, from Hamilton, was awarded the Wannon Water encouragement award, and received a $50 prize pack.
• Anne Fleming was awarded the people’s choice award (a selection of native trees courtesy of ERA Nurseries) for her drawing of a eucalyptus forest.
Off the Rails Gallery would like to thank Glenelg Hopkins CMA, Wannon Water, Era Nursery, Corea Wines, Kelspec Services, Nerrissa Major for creating the red-gum trophy and Danny McOwan for judging the 138 entries.
The annual International Tree Drawing Competition is an initiative of OTR Gallery to promote interest in drawing, National Tree Day, and creative community activities.
